SNMP Trap EnhancerThe SNMP Trap Enhancer service provides intelligent SNMP trap collection with extensible transformation library of trap statuses and message codes. Users can easily collect SNMP Traps, transform cryptic data, and send the trap events to a local Windows Event Log, Syslog Server, or System Center Operations Manager (SCOM). The SNMP Trap Enhancer library includes over one thousand predefined common traps including all Cisco traps, the library can also easily be updated to include new and custom traps. The JaxMP SNMP Trap Enhancer provides a way to translate cryptic SNMP Traps or Informs into human readable text. All traps are received, translated, and then written to the local EventLog and/or a Syslog server. With the SNMP Trap Enhancer users of System Center Operations Manager can leverage these events through our custom Managment Pack to provide extensive logging and alerting for SNMP traps. The SNMP Trap Enhancer is essentially a trap receiver that converts the contents of the trap, and then sends that trap to target destination source. Running as a Windows Service, the SNMP Trap Enhancer relies on the Windows SNMP Trap Service to be installed and running. Traps are purposely written to the local EventLog to allow our SCOM Management Pack to capture events and generate alerts. Traps are constructed in a way to allow System Center Operations Manager to easily identify the different priorities of incoming messages. How Does It Work? The SNMP Trap Enhancer application runs as a Windows Service and integrates with the Windows SNMP Trap service to receive all incoming SNMP Traps. Traps are then compared to the Trap Input File (TIF) library, all traps are rewritten based upon the TIF that matches the trap. By default, all rewritten traps are sent to the local EventLog. Optionally, messages can be sent to a Syslog server, if configured. SCOM IntegrationThe SNMP Trap Enhancer application is completely integrated with System Center Operations Manager. Even though SCOM is not needed to run the Trap Enhancer, if you choose to integrate the two, all that is needed is to install the SNMPTE Management Pack. The Management Pack uses the EventLog alerts generated by the SNMP Trap Enhancer application. Whether the SNMP trap has been rewritten or not, the Management Pack will still generate an alert to notify you when an event has happened. The Management Pack includes all event logging and alerting configured to notify you when critical issues happen on the network. |
